Now Enrolling for the 2011-2012 School Year!!

I am so excited for this coming year with your child. We have lots to look forward to as your little one learns, explores, grows, and develops a love of learning.

Please make sure to fill out a registration form for your child to reserve their spot!

This year we are planning a few field trips (we will need some parent help!)

-Visit to the Pumpkin Patch
-Visit to the Fire Station

I also hope to arrange for a few special guests to visit with our students (dentist/doctor)
(If you have a job/occupation/interest that you would like to share with our students, we would LOVE to have you!)

Our Daily Schedule

Here's what you'll find in a typical day at Little Sprouts Preschool.

Upon arrival, students will practice writing their name on their name cards. It is amazing to see the improvement as the year progresses!

Then students will choose from a variety of activity stations such as stringing cards (fine motor skills), pretend play, counting and number activities, word cards, and a variety of other stations to work on particular skills as needed.

Next comes Calendar Time! We learn the Days of the Week, learn our Month Song, and practice counting and number recognition as we put each day's number on our calendar. We will also learn about the day's weather.

The topic of the day is introduced, followed by associated activities.

We have daily music time, learning songs and exploring with music.

We always incorporate books in our day and usually end preschool time with a story. At Little Sprouts Preschool, we are firm believers in developing a lifelong love of reading.

As the weather permits, we will engage in outdoor activities as often as possible.

The Year in Review

A brief and condensed recap on this year:
Add Image
Colors!
We did a magic trick of painting both hands different colors, clapping them together, saying the magic words and PRESTO! We made a new color!

We read a book on mixing paint for different colors, sangs a color song, and learned all about primary colors making a rainbow.

Numbers!
Right at the beginning of the year, it was one of the student's birthdays. So, of course, we had a birthday party! We practiced putting the numbered flames on our birthday candles, Coloring our birthday balloons paper, and playing games and working on motor skills by catching and throwing our numbered birthday balloons. To top it all off we enjoyed tasty cupcakes. :D

FEELINGS:

Preschool-age children often need help in expressing and understanding their feelings. We devoted a day of preschool to exploring Feelings. We practiced making faces in our big mirror to show different feelings- sad, happy, mad, excited, surprised, scared, and others.

Then, because it was October, we made Jack-o-Lanterns- and practiced showing different feelings using their faces.

Feeling Silly

Feeling Sad
Feeling Mad

Feeling Surprised

And our favorite feeling of all... Happy!

Letters:
M:
We Made some Mail for our Moms...inviting them to a Muffins for Mom party! We also enjoyed some Mmm Mmm cookies.

Another day we had our Muffins for Moms party- we enjoyed a Magic show, the story If You Give a Moose a Muffin, and our Muffins. Lots of fun. :)

S:
Silly Spaghetti art! Cooked Spaghetti noodles make for Some Silly art when dipped in paint and Splattered on our paper. We also enjoyed a Snack of Slimy Spaghetti.

Around Halloween we learned about Silly, Spooky Spiders.

And Sleepy, Snoozing Snakes! We watched a video and learned all sorts of snake facts. Ssssssssspifffy!

U:
Umbrellas! We learned a new song about rain and sang it while walking around a child holding the umbrella. Miss Tawna used a water bottle to spray rain on the umbrella, and "on hands, and feet, and nose!" The kids love, LOVED this! Giggles were constant.

We played a game of keeping our balloons Uh, Uh, UP in the air!

We also made some raining Umbrella pictures using watered down paint and straws- blowing air like the wind to spread the water all over our umbrellas.
